Pakistan will not strike first: Gilani
LAHORE: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has promised to respond aggressively if attacked but reassured India on Friday that Pakistan would not strike first. "We will not take any action on our own," Gilani told reporters. "There will be no aggression from our side." Talking to journalists at the wedding ceremony of Federal Minister Manzoor Wattoo’s daughter with former foreign minister Khursheed Mehmood Kasuri’s son, the prime minister said Pakistan stood for peace but it would give a matching response to any external aggression. Responding to a question, he said Pakistan’s defence was impeccable and in safe hands. Common friends of India and Pakistan wanting peace in the world were also playing their role in defusing tension between the two countries after the Mumbai terrorist attacks, Gilani said. Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the US Hussain Haqqani told the media in Washington that Pakistan did not want war but was ready to deal with any threat. agencies
