JI claims 1,500 civilians died in Bajaur operation

PESHAWAR: A Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) leader from Bajaur Agency claimed that 1,500 children, women and elderly people had been killed in the military operation against militants so far. Addressing a protest demonstration against the operation here on Sunday, JI leader Sahibzada Haroonur Rashid said the operation forced hundreds of thousands of Bajauris to become refugees in their own country. He said the government was killing people in Swat, Darra, Bajaur and other tribal areas to appease the United States. He said the present government was following the same policies adopted by Pervez Musharraf. Zar Noor Afridi, deputy general secretary of JI in tribal areas, also addressed the protest demonstration. staff report
