BAHAWALPUR: Police on Sunday arrested eight suspects during a search operation. Spokesman to the Regional Police Office said that police conducted the operation in Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan and Bahawalnagar districts. During the operation, police detained eight people who failed to produce identity documents. Separately, a three-day anti-polio drive will commence in Lodhran, Khanewal, Sahiwal and Vehari from Tuesday. In District Bahawalpur, 597,000 children will be administered the drops. Chief Executive Officer District Health Authority Bahawalpur Dr Saeed Asghar said that 1,369 teams have been formed for the purpose. As many as 1,077 mobile teams will visit houses while 157 teams will perform their duties at Bahawalpur Victoria Hospital, Civil Hospital, Tehsil Headquarter Hospitals, basic health units and rural health centers. He said that 117 mobile teams would administer polio vaccines at general bus stops, wagon stand, railway station and toll plazas and 18 teams will perform their duties at markets. Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Rana Saleem Afzal directed the authorities concerned that negligence would not be tolerated during the campaign. Meanwhile, the first five-day interactive theater workshop on peace-building through creative expression for youth is in progress at Bahawalpur Arts Council. Thirty students from Islamia University and other colleges are participating in the workshop. Chief guest of the opening ceremony, Bahawalpur Waste Management Company Chairman Samiullah Chaudhry announced that the company will launch a consolidated programme of theatrical performance in all eighty two union councils of Bahawalpur to create awareness among people regarding sanitation and end environmental pollution in rural areas. During the workshop, the participants are being trained on themes of human rights and peaceful conflict resolution through various activities and art medium such as interactive theater, visual arts, music, film and citizen journalism and photography.
