KARACHI: The family of slain journalist Zakir Ali alias Shan Dahar has demanded the re-investigation into the case and the arrest and interrogation of the suspected accused. Shan Dahar who was working with a private television channel in Larkana, was shot on January 01, 2014 and taken to Chandka Medical College Hospital (CMCH), where he remained unattended until he succumbed to his injuries in the morning, nine hours later. Speaking at press conference at Karachi Press Club, Ms Fauzia Dahar, sister of Shan Dahar, Asad Iqbal Butt from Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP), Lala Hassan from Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF), Imtiaz Khan Faran Union leader urged that the Government of Sindh should fulfill its commitments made by the then Chief Minister Sindh to provide justice to the slain journalist family. They also demanded the CM Sindh, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh, and Deputy Inspector General of Police Larkana to bring the killers to the justice. They said Shan was working on a number of incendiary stories at the time and had received threats prior to the shooting. However, the family and media community in Pakistan likewise believes that the killing was retribution for his journalistic work. Speaking on the occasion, Lala Hassan said Pakistan Press Foundation and International Freedom of Expression Exchange (IFEX) are constantly following the case in close liaison with the familyof victim. “The family of Shan is being threatened and harassed. The DIG had formed committee, who had started reinvestigation but the inquiry officer was transferred,” Lala added.
