Eight people were injured when several vehicles collided on Motorway near Sheikhupura, police said on Sunday morning. The accident occurred due to dense fog. According to the Motorway Police, there was a lot of fog on motorway and visibility was limited to only 100 meters. Police have closed Motorway from Sheikhupura to Lahore and from Pindi Bhattian to Kala Shah Kaku. The M-1 from Rakshi to Peshawar has also been closed due to intense fog. Intense fog was reported in Renala Khurd, Okara, Sahiwal, Chichawatni, Mian Channu and plain areas of Punjab. Civil aviation officials said because of intense fog in the Punjab, several flights of private airlines and Pakistan International Airlines were delayed or diverted. Motorists have been advised to use fog lights. They have also been advised to call the 130 helpline in case of emergency. Meanwhile, temperature has gone down in many regions of the country, particularly in the northern regions where Skardu is resting at icy minus 11 degree Celsius. According to MET Office, Skardu was the coldest region in the country after being recorded at minus 11 degrees on Sunday. As per the forecast of Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), dry and cold weather is expected in most parts of Pakistan, including federal capital Islamabad. Intense cold weather will continue to prevail in northern parts of Pakistan. The temperature in Karachi was recorded at 10 degree centigrade. Published in Daily Times, December 24th 2018.
