ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan army has won the 25th National Men’s Judo Championship with Pakistan WAPDA winning the women’s category title. According to a press release issued on Sunday, the Pakistan army obtained 9 gold medals in the men’s tournament, with WAPDA winning 5 gold medals and Pakistan army winning 3 gold medals in the female tournament. Inter provincial Coordination Minister Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada was the chief guest at the closing ceremony, organised by the Pakistan Judo Federation at Liaquat Gymnasium. The minister acknowledged that the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) was making all out efforts for the promotion of all games in the country. He said that sports nowadays had attained new heights in the world. He added that that holding this event would certainly help raise the standard of Judo in Pakistan. Pirzada also congratulated the Pakistan Judo Federation president, all the players and officials who participated in the event, for providing support to Pakistan at this critical juncture when it was accosted by terrorism and extremism due to regional conflicts. He said that all possible measures had been taken by the PSB to provide maximum sporting facilities to national players. He also pointed out that the youth and junior sports competitions were building blocks to supplement senior teams and eventually improve performance. Pirzada also assured his full support and cooperation in holding the championships again in the future. The federal minister congratulated the winning teams and wished luck to the participating teams in their future endeavours.
