ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal on Tuesday visited the residence of senior journalist Ahmed Noorani to inquire after his health and prayed for his early recovery. Ahmed Noorani had received severe injuries in an attack by some unknown people the other day. On the occasion, Ahsan Iqbal assured to bring all those involved in the incident to justice. “I am personally monitoring progress on investigation of the incident on a daily basis and all state-of-art resources are being utilized to apprehend the culprits,” he added. The minister vowed not to tolerate any restriction on freedom of expression. The journalist’s car was stopped by three men travelling on a motorcycle near Zero Point, and it is said that three more men joined the attackers and started hitting Noorani with iron rods and thrashing him after taking out the car keys from the ignition system. The incident took place at Khayabane Suharwardy near the Federal Urdu University in Islamabad. Police are currently investigating the matter. Pakistan is placed at among the world’s most dangerous countries for journalists as it ranks 139 out of 180 countries on the World Press Freedom Index 2017 compiled by Reporters Without Borders.
