ISLAMABAD: An accountability court in Islamabad Tuesday once again postponed the indictment of former president and PPP Co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari in Thatta water supply reference till Aug 7. At the outset of the hearing, accountability judge Muhammad Azam Khan, who was presiding over the hearing, sought a reply from the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Zardari’s petition seeking dismissal of the reference against him. The judge subsequently deferred Zardari’s indictment besides giving exemption from appearance on the pretext of coronavirus pandemic. The reference accuses the suspects of misusing authority for the illegal award of different contracts to private contractors. The reference was filed in April last year and also nominated 13 other individuals in addition to Zardari. The reference alleged that some accused persons created fake accounts and purchased plots from ill-gotten money. Zardari was released after being granted bail by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in December last year on medical grounds.
