PESHAWAR: The lawyer community observed a complete boycott of courts on the third consecutive day on Thursday and their representatives bodies decided to convene a ‘Lawyers Convention’ in Balochistan.
“The lawyers’ bodies across the country, including the Pakistan Bar Council and the Supreme Court Bar Association have decided to convene the lawyers convention in Balochistan to address the lawyers problems,” said Muhammad Muzzamil Khan, President Peshawar High Court Bar Association (PHCBA) who talked to reporters after reaching Peshawar from Quetta on Thursday.
He said that a 45-member delegation of office-bearers of the lawyers associations across the country on Wednesday visited the Balochistan Bar Association under the leadership of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President, Syed Ali Zafar.
Flanked by KP Bar Council’s executive committee chairman, Muhammad Ijaz Sabi and office bearers of the PHCBA, Muzzamil Khan said that first the lawyers’ delegation held a condolence meeting and offered fateha for the departed souls of the slain lawyers and then discussed the situation with the lawyers of Balochistan.
He said the lawyers’ delegation also met the Chief Minister, Sanaullah Zehri. He listened to the lawyers’ leaders and assured all his cooperation to them. Accepting all the demands of the lawyers, he said the chief minister announced Rs10 million for each slain lawyer in the blast and Rs 0.5 million for injured legal community members .
Furthermore, he said, the chief minister also announced jobs for the legal heirs of the deceased lawyers in the government departments and scholarships for the young lawyers for further education in the field.
Meanwhile, the lawyers observed a complete boycott of courts on the third consecutive day to protest the Quetta carnage. The chairman of the KP Bar Council’s executive committee, Ijaz Khan Sabi, also called upon the lawyers bodies across the province to arrange “Quran Khwani” and Fateha Khwani for the martyrs today.
