RAWALPINDI: Federal Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed along with Federal Minister for Health Aamir Mehmood Kiani on Monday inaugurated a shelter home in Rawalpindi to provide a facility to homeless people. On the occasion while talking to media persons, Health Minister Aamir Mehmood Kiani said the project is aimed at restoring the self-respect of those who spend their nights on footpaths and road sides. Initially, arrangements for 100 persons is being made in the basement of Parking Plaza at Fawara Chowk, Raja Bazaar, however, the government is planning to construct multi stories building for a permanent shelter home at old Tehsil office area where the capacity would be enhanced for 600 to 700 homeless citizens. He said, it will not be only the shelter for the homeless but the administration will also provide three times meal to the citizens staying there and added that attendants of the patients admitted in the District Head Quarter Hospital could also stay there. To a question, the federal minster for health said, expenditures of the shelter home would be borne through donations by philanthropists. Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed said, “I have strong reservations on the production orders of the corrupt parliamentarians. It is not justice that a corrupt leader is also living in same ministers’ enclave where the other honest ministers are living.” He appreciated the efforts of Aamir Mehmood Kiani and other local leadership of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf for the establishment of shelter home in a limited time period. Provincial Mnister for Non-Formal Education Rashid Hafeez, Member of National Assembly Sheikh Rasheed Shafiq, Member of Provincial Assembly Umar Tanveer Butt, Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner Dr Umar Jehangir, Parks & Horticulture Authority Chairman Asif Mehmood and other local leaders were also present on the occasion.
