Federal Minister for Human Rights Dr Shireen M Mazari has expressed concern over reports of a woman manhandled by officials of Darul Aman in Dera Ghazi Khan and strongly condemned the act. The human rights minister directed officials concerned to conduct an inquiry and present a detailed report to the ministry on priority basis. Dr Shireen M Mazari also had a telephonic conversation with the DG Khan deputy commissioner. She reportedly spoke with Darul Aman officials and the Social Welfare Department, asking them to hold a departmental inquiry into the matter. DG Khan DC was directed by the minister to visit Darul Aman and look into the matter. Dr Shireen Mazari said that Ministry of Human Rights is ready to take serious steps to ensure such incidents are brought to an end and is determined to safeguard human rights at every cost. “We will also form solid policies to address such issues on priority basis and we will formally send the request to the provincial government to appoint female staff in Darul Aman soon,” said Mazari. She shared that the Ministry has always taken care of the rights of human beings with a special focus on women and children. Women have been given equal rights by the Constitution of Pakistan but the Ministry of Human Rights is always concerned that incidents regarding abuse against women are dealt with justly, added the Minister. The officials of Social Welfare Department informed the Minister that two officials of Darul Aman have been suspended for their negligence and a detailed inquiry report will be submitted to the Human Rights Ministry soon.
