‘Punjab Nahi Jaungi’ is already getting raving reviews from critics and we cannot seem to get enough of it! I was fortunate to interview the producer of the film, Shahzad Nasib who also happens to be the owner of the Six Sigma Plus production house. Starring Humayun Saeed, Mehwish Hayat and Urwa Hocane in this latest romantic-comedy flick, let’s learn more about the film from the producer himself as he discusses the project, his early life and more in an exclusive interview. How did you start off in the entertainment business? Although my family business is different, I ended up making films and dramas while pursuing my early college days. I often participated in drama clubs too. I normally don’t do work on or off camera but write things on paper and make others do what is necessary and required in the moment. What compelled you to create Six Sigma Plus Entertainment? Six Sigma Plus Entertainment was created to reinvigorate television landscape comprising of films and drama serials in an effort to attract people to the cinemas and enhance their viewing experience. We wanted the viewers to watch quality dramas/films at home where more than 100 channels are available to surf. Any struggles you faced while making a career for yourself? We know that we must work hard to earn higher grades. I learnt the art of filmmaking and dramas while working hard and taking one step at a time. Who do you look up to in the industry and why? As a producer, I learn from every single person in the entertainment business. I believe that one should learn from the mistakes of others so I follow the same rule. ‘Punjab Nahi Jaungi’ is the latest addition to the list of feature films of Six Sigma Plus. What details would you like to share about the film? At this point, I can only say that ‘Punjab Nahi Jaungi’ is a family movie with versatile actors and top-notch film and drama writers. I can’t wait for everyone to see the film! What is the premise of ‘Punjab Nahi Jaungi’? Well, I don’t want to disclose the premise of the film before its release. I don’t want to do it injustice by giving out information. How is ‘Punjab Nahi Jaungi’ different from the previous films created by Six Sigma Plus? ‘Punjab Nahi Jaungi’ is different in quite a few ways. Before its anticipated release, I can safely say that it has quality acting. The screenplay is excellent as well and we shot the film in different locations of Southern and central Punjab. I am sure the movie can be related to many people. ‘Jawani Phir Nahi Ani’ and ‘Punjab Nahin Jaungi’ were both comedies. Would you be experimenting with other genres too? As a producer, one should always stick to the winning formula, which is to earn maximum profit, however at Six Sigma Plus, we endeavour to create films on new themes. ‘Jawani Phir Nahi Ani’ and ‘Punjab Nahi Jaungi’ are not complete comedies as ‘PNJ’ is also a romantic film. But, yes, we will aim for completely different genres in the future. What other film projects are being worked on? We are currently in an ongoing process of creating films as generally production houses look to synthesise the content of movies, dramas and so on. However, I am very excited about the upcoming comedy film ‘Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2’. ‘Jawani Phir Nahi Ani’ was the first Pakistani film to uphold the most profitable film title. Your thoughts on this accomplishment? Yes, it is a fact and as a team member, I feel proud of it. Moreover, we learned a lot from its success. Any plans of Six Sigma Plus collaborating with international films and agencies? At the present moment, the government has announced a new policy for the entertainment industry and we will abide by it for all our future projects. What do you think should be improved in Pakistani films? I believe film content is the main thing we can improve in Pakistani films. That said, every other aspect is almost up to the mark. Any advice for youngsters and aspiring individuals? My advice for them would be to not go for short cuts but do hard and smart work. Indeed, Shahzad Nasib is a talented young man who is taking charge of the Pakistani cinema in hopes of revitalising the television landscape and allowing people to experience diverse genres. I wish him the very best for his future endeavours. The writer is also a model and an actor. He can be reached at haiderrifaat95@gmail.com Published in Daily Times, September 7th 2017.
