Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi said that his party wanted this government to complete its tenure, so they were supporting it with sincerity, but they should not be considered a contemporary wife. “We have gained diversified experiences during political understanding with PTI, PPP and PMLN. Combination with Pakistan People’s Party was excellent during which not only all agreed points were implemented in letter and spirit but Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari did a step ahead. But working with PTI and PML-N was not a good experience for us.” He expressed these views while having a meeting with a delegation of Standing Committee of Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) led by Arif Nizami, its president, who called on him at the Punjab Assembly. Talking about committee formed by Prime Minister to look after coalition parties issues, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi told that there was positive progress with previous committee but now government has formed a new committee and we were not able to understand its reasons. “We have also joined a Bachat Committee and waiting for our luck,” he said. Responding to a question of CPNE members about Dr. Kaleem Imam, IGP Sindh, he opined that Dr. Kaleem did not play good role by disobeying chief minister of Sindh. He remained busy holding press conferences against the chief minister. “Strict action must had been taken against such officer but forces patronizing him also did not behaved well,” he further stated. “We are following policy of wait and expect betterment. We think we will also be affected if government faces any instability. PTI is not implementing on agreed points. PTI committed to hand over all affairs of four districts having majority of PMLQ voters and supporters but they did not,” Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi added. About Saraiki province demand, he told that Saraiki people were used under this card and people demanding this province are hungry for power and perks, and not sincere with their people. He said that maintaining peace and timely justice in Pakistan was their goal. “Media is pivotal for country development and it should guide government in right direction. I can assure that we believe in freedom of expression. We will not support any action against freedom of media and will stand shoulder to shoulder for welfare and freedom of media and journalists. Newspaper also played very crucial role in fight against terrorism and also created awareness among masses,” Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi appreciated. Lauding role of CPNE, he said that due to such efforts media is free in Pakistan. “CPNE is the only representative body of newspaper editors having renowned and senior journalists of integrity who had served this profession with zeal and commitment. Journalists of Pakistan are brave and patriotic who always defeated voices of enemies,” he further maintained. On this occasion, Arif Nizami drew his attention towards disastrous situation of media industry in Pakistan.
