Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb has also tweeted in response to the on-going situation. If PTI’s and Asad Umer’s policies were so good, and the problems were from PMLN government, then why was he asked to step down. This is an admission by IK that his polices have created an economic crisis in Pakistan. the real problem is not Asad. This was always on the cards. Wonder why the party kicked up a storm when his ouster was leaked a few days ago. His refusal to take up another ministry suggests that he isn’t all that thrilled by the “resignation.” https://t.co/55rVoe4OxY — Nadeem Farooq Paracha (@NadeemfParacha) April 18, 2019 An hour after Asad Umar announced that he is stepping down as finance minister, held a press conference and said that it was time to make some “difficult decisions” to stabilise the economy and that he hopes his replacement would be supported in their efforts. During the press conference, Umar said that he was asked to take the energy portfolio following a reshuffle in the cabinet. “I met the prime minister this morning and convinced him that I did not want to take any portfolio,” he said. “This does not mean that I am not available to forward PTI’s vision for ‘Naya Pakistan’. I am and will always be available to forward the interests of this country.” In response to a question about the earlier reports of reshuffling in the cabinet, he said: “I was first told [about this portfolio change] last night.” “I think, as per my discussion with the prime minister, other changes [in the cabinet] will be announced either tonight or tomorrow morning.”
