LAHORE: Hours before the final Pakistan Super League (PSL) showdown at the National Stadium of Karachi on Sunday, Maryam Nawaz, daughter of former premier Nawaz Sharif, took to Twitter to give the credit for the return of big-time cricket to her father. In a tweet, she said: “International cricket returns to Karachi that once was a terror-stricken city. Thank you Nawaz Sharif.” Taking a jibe at the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), she said even the party under the leadership of former president Asif Ali Zardari could not make it happen. Earlier in a statement, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said the revival of sports activities, growth of economy and restoration of peace were an evidence of the government’s performance. He said it was due to the vision of the federal government, cooperation of provincial governments and significant role of armed forces and law enforcement agencies that peace had been restored in Karachi. Abbasi said PSL had infused a new spirit in the whole nation and would also portray a positive image of the remarkable and unraveled city of lights, Karachi. He said that the government would keep working with same passion and zeal towards national peace and prosperity. Published in Daily Times, March 26th 2018.
