KHYBER AGENCY: The 24th death anniversary of legendary Pashto poet, also known as Baba-e-Ghazal, Amir Hamza Khan Shinwari,was observed in Landi Kotal on Monday. In this connection, a literary gathering was organised at Hamza Baba Complex, attended by a number of poets, literary figures and avid readers ofAmir Hamza from across the Khyber Agency.The attendees paid rich tribute to the Pashto poet,reflecting on different aspects of his life. The poetry recitation (mushaira) session was presided over by Dr Kalim Shinwari.The participating poets engaged the audience by reading out some of their poemsand also admired and acknowledged the great services of Amir Hamza, who had contributed immensely for the uplift of Pashto language. The participants paid the late poet a rich tribute through their prose, Pashto verses and ghazal recitation on the occasion. Amir Hamza, who is remembered as the pioneer of modern Pashto ghazal, passed away on February 19, 1994. Published in Daily Times, February 20th 2018.
