LAHORE: Jamat-e-Islami chief Siraj-ul-Haq has criticised Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif for failing to prevent the rape and murder of eight-year-old Zainab whose dead body was found in Kasur after five days of her disappearance. On his visit to the family of the late Zainab on Thursday, Siraj-ul-Haq expressed his condolences over the unfortunate incident. Speaking to media on the occasion, the JUI chief asked: “Chief Minister sahib, where was your police, where was your dolphin force? Why were [they] sleeping when [Zainab] was kidnapped?” “Innocent Zainab was brutally murdered after being kidnapped,” the JI chief lamented, as he reiterated demand that the culprit(s) be caught and punished. Siraj asked why it took the CM so long to visit the deceased’s family. “The chief minister’s office [is just] one hour’s drive away from Kasur. Zainab was a poor man’s daughter, that’s why he didn’t visit [on the same day],” the JI chief alleged. Protests and riots, that initially took place in Kasur, broke up in several parts of the country resulted in at least two deaths. Police on Wednesday opened fire at the protesters in Kasur as they took to the streets demanding justice for the minor.
