KARACHI: With the onset of the winter, the incidents of fire have become routine, as on early morning Friday, fire broke out on the third floor of a garment factory near Karachi’s site area and latter in the day at a three-storey building near city court’s also caught fire. According to the details, a massive fire erupted at a garment factory in the SITE area of Karachi late on wee hours of the Friday morning. Rescue sources said the blaze had engulfed three-storey building of the factory located at Nooras Chowrangi. Rescuers made efforts to put out the fire with the assistance of 18 fire-tenders and five water- browsers. The fire brigade authorities have declared it a third-degree blaze. All the workers inside the factory have been rescued safely. Power supply has been disconnected. No one was present inside the factory, claimed fire-fighting officials, further adding that all the workers inside were evacuated safely. The blaze on the third floor of the building has been doused; however, the operation was underway on the first and second floors. Firefighters were able to successfully extinguish the fire. Pakistan lacks safety measures for its workers. In one of it deadliest factory fire in Karachi’s Baldia area in 2012 in which over 250 people were burnt to death. Later, in the day, another fire broke out in a three-storey building near the city courts. Around six fire brigade vehicles tried to extinguish the fire. According to the fire brigade officials, the fire broke out in a medicine storage area of the building. Fire tenders had eventually started running out of water. Later, the fire also reached to a three-storey nearby building. Due to heavy traffic, fire tenders initially faced difficulty in reaching the site of fire. Fire brigade officials said that the intensity of fire was high. Earlier, clouds of smoke were seen issuing from the area. The site is near to a commercial area, having clothing shops as well.The fire has said be under control and cooling was underway.
