PESHAWAR: For the first time in the history of the Province, a Special Economic Zone, as envisioned by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Economic Zones Development & Management Company (KPEZDMC) has entered into its implementation stage in record time of 10 months. To celebrate the success of the company an event was organized by KPEZDMC at Hattar Special Economic Zone, Haripur where plots were handed over to as many as 29 industrialists for construction purposes. The possession of plots was given to industrialists hailing from diverse sectors including Engineering, Packaging, Food, Marble &Granite, Steel, Food Process &Packaging, Mineral Grinding, Electronics, Pharmaceuticals, Chemical, Plastic and ware housing. The industrialists have been selected on the basis of their feasibility plan and ability to start production in maximum period of 2 years. This is a huge breakthrough for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as the company started with the objective of promoting industrialization in the Province by providing lucrative incentives to draw investment in the this region. The province, unfortunately, has suffered on the economic front for a long time due a multitude of reasons including the unstable security situation and, lack of government support among others. The Chief guest of the event, Abdul Karim Khan, Special Advisor to CM KP on Industries appreciated the efforts of the team and said that KPEZDMC has been successful in not only drawing industrialists towards investment in KP but has delivered its promises by facilitating all the operations related to this Economic Zone. According to Mohsin Syed, CEO, KPEZDMC, the successful operation of the Hattar Special Economic Zone will enable the company to replicate the Hattar model in other parts of the province and fast track the mission of provincial development. Hattar Special Economic Zone will generate 30,000 jobs and bring Rs 30 billion investment to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The formal commencement of the industrial work will be commemorated by an allotment ceremony to all the plot holders who will be starting the construction work on their industries shortly. Initially, forty 30 factories are starting construction work covering ninety 110 acres of land. The benefits of this revolutionary step are going to be manifold. The most immediate effect will be the generation of employment for the distraught locals of KP who have been the victims of the aftereffects of the scourge of terrorism and corruption alike for a long time. Moreover, industrial activities on such a great scale will help generate revenue which will ultimately result in the economic prosperity of the province.
