PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Monday directed the district administration of Chitral to utilise Rs 15 million relief funds for quick and speedy assistance of flood victims.
According to a PDMA report, the Chitral deputy commissioner has been authorised to utilise available Rs 15 million relief funds for flood relief efforts in Urson valley. At least 29 people lost their lives while 13 people including eight security personnel were missing. Around 19 houses were completely washed away while 27 were partially damaged. The dead bodies of 16 victims including three security personnel have been recovered whereas 13 to 14 persons were still missing. The report said that irrigation channels and water supply schemes were badly damaged due to floods.
KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has released a sum of Rs 50 million for food and other necessary items for flood victims.
Earlier, the deputy commissioner along with rescue and relief teams visited the affected areas and distributed 50 tents, 150 quilts, 200 mats, besides 40 cocked food items among the victims.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Army personnel, district administration, National Disaster and Management Authority (NDMA) and PDMA are actively taking part in the relief and rescue operations.
The PDMA has already provided 200 tents to the district administration before the onset of monsoon. Also, 150 tents, 100 kitchen sets, 100 plastic mats and 200 quilts have been dispatched for the affected areas from the PDMA warehouse.
The PDMA has requested the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) for provision of helicopter service to provide relief in inaccessible and remote areas of Chitral. Emergency has been declared in Tehsil Headquater Hospital Drosh. The chief minister has placed his official helicopter at the disposal of the PDMA for immediate relief efforts.
