RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi Police have apprehended 2147 proclaimed offenders (POs) involved in heinous crimes during the first six months of current year and recovered 114 vehicles and valuables worth million of rupees looted by them in a string of theft incidents. According to district police spokesperson, Rawalpindi Police arrested 224 accused in 20 cases of robbery and recovered cash amount and valuables worth Rs 8.9 million from them. 159 persons involved in 117 murder cases and 13 persons involved in five cases of kidnapping for ransom were nabbed by the police and 6 abductees were recovered from their possession. As many 27 persons involved in 24 cases of car snatching were arrested and 15 stolen vehicles were recovered from them. 35 accused were apprehended in 32 cases of motorcycle snatching and 12 motorcycles were recovered from them. 134 persons were nabbed in 372 theft cases of vehicles and 92 vehicles were seized from their possession. 7 vehicles stolen from Lahore, Sheikhupura, Islamabad and Gujranwala were recovered. Police arrested 7 accused in 4 cases of police encounter. 581 persons involved in 574 cases of illegal arms were held and 16 Kalashnikov, 10 rifles, 28 shot guns, 465 pistols, 14 revolvers, 6 carbines, 2460 rounds and 25 daggers were recovered from them. As many as 1070 drug peddlers were arrested in 1057 cases of drugs 11.505 kilogram heroin, 485.943 kilogram charas, 8109 bottles of liquor, 0.350 kilogram opium were seized. 51 drunkards were also nabbed. 176 gangsters of 46 interprovincial gangs were apprehended during 6 months who confessed to their involvement in 242 cases during the investigation. Cash amounting to Rs ten million, 4 cars, 19 other vehicles, 38 motor cycles, 123 pistols, 1 revolver and 340 rounds were recovered from them. In 428 search operations conducted by police during 6 months, 11 cases under foreign act, 23 cases of drug smuggling, 4 cases of illegal arms and 83 other cases were registered. As many as 60 hotels, 20 inns, 22308 homes and 97069 persons were checked during these search operations by Rawalpindi police.
