ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb claimed that the people were clamouring for holding elections on time, and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) must ensure that there are no delays. The minister was addressing the media after a ceremony held in the National Press Club in honour of the International Day for Thalassemia. She said that 2018 would be the year that would mark 10 years of successful democracy in Pakistan, and vowed that her party, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) would resist any moves that aimed to delay the elections. Aurangzeb also praised the government and other state institutions in successfully curbing terrorism in Pakistan, and said that state institutions should take notice of Imran Khan’s claims that the army helped the PML-N win the 2013 elections. She also gave an update on Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal’s health following the attempted assassination attempt on his life, and said that the minister was now in stable condition. She claimed that Ahsan Iqbal was well respected throughout the country, and all political factions had condemned the attempt at his life. She, however, did say that she believes all ‘important’ people in the country ought to be provided full security.
