It is clarified that the area in question is a public playground located at F-11/1 near Ali Market, not a designated cricket ground. While the Capital Development Authority (CDA) initially permitted its use for the cricket and persistent complaints from residents of the adjacent community necessitated a review as per law. The Residents reported disruptions caused by large crowds even at odd hours i.e., property damage from cricket balls (including impacts on doors), excessive noise from matches, commentary, disturbances to daily routines and sleep due to round-the-clock activities. Consequently, the CDA again reviewed the space as a multi-purpose ground to accommodate broader community needs.
However, cricket activities have not been entirely discontinued.
To address this, we have proposed the development of an indoor cricket facility. It is also important to note that there are already two dedicated cricket grounds in sector F-11, located near Tehzeeb Bakers and Khudad Heights, which remain accessible to the cricketers.
Regarding misconduct allegations, a formal inquiry has confirmed that a CDA-employed gardener colluded with cricketers from Rawalpindi to misuse the ground for personal gain, including illegal activities such as gambling and betting. Disciplinary proceedings have been initiated, and the concerned employee has been suspended and investigation are in operational. Additionally, an FIR is being filed against those involved in criminal misconduct.
For transparency, we reaffirm that two public grounds in the vicinity are fully operational for community use. The CDA remains committed to resolving conflicts equitably and ensuring public spaces serve the broader community interest.
