ISLAMABAD: Sacked Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s daughter Maryam Nawaz on Friday criticized the manhandling of lawyers done by security personnel posted outside the Federal Judicial Complex and stated that she would request the interior ministry to probe the incident. Earlier, Maryam Nawaz and her husband Captain (retd) Safdar had reached the judicial complex for indictment in the Avenfield properties reference that was filed against them by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) under direction of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. It was reported that after the hearing had begun, a group of lawyers rushed into the courtroom and protested against the high handedness police displayed against them stating that they were being manhandled and not being allowed to enter the premises. Upon this commotion, court adjourned the hearing until October 19 and Nawaz Sharif, Maryum Nawaz and her husband Capt (retd) Safdar are all expected to be indicted in the next hearing. While addressing media on her way out of the judicial complex, Maryam said the lawyers should have been allowed to enter the court as they had permission to do so and courts are for the public and not a select few. “I will request the Interior Ministry to inquire into the incident,” she said.
