An accountability court in Karachi on Saturday issued non-bailable arrest warrants of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan leader Babar Ghauri in a reference pertaining to Rs 2.8 billion alleged corruption in the Karachi Port Trust (KPT). The NAB alleged in the reference filed on the Sindh High Court’s orders that eight people, including Ghauri, illegally regularised 940 employees of the KPT, causing Rs 2.8 billion loss to the national exchequer. The court adjourned hearing of the case till October 17. The NAB had earlier taken the case to the SHC which directed that a reference be filed in the accountability court. The SHC had also directed the NAB to arrest Ghauri as part of investigation into the case. Published in Daily Times, September 23rd 2018.
