LAHORE: Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) leader Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri has urged the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government to dissolve assemblies and pave the way for next general elections in the country. Qadri landed in Pakistan early Tuesday morning from Turkey, and briefly spoke to media persons at the Lahore’s airport where, despite severe cold, he was welcomed by a large number of workers. He said the country was going through a critical phase and the government had failed to live up to its responsibilities. “The government has completely failed. It has lost the capability to stay in power,” Qadri said. He said that the government’s failures were not hidden from anyone. It even failed to hold successful negotiations to put a peaceful end to the Islamabad sit-in, he added. He claimed the PML-N government had virtually collapsed after the Model Town incident. The rulers had been exposed, he added. Those who were not resolving national issues through parliament had no right to govern, the PAT chief said, adding that the government had to seek army’s help to persuade the Islamabad protesters to call off sit-in. Qadri thanked military for playing the role of broker and guarantor in talks with Faizabad protestors. He demanded that the entire cabinet should immediately be sent packing for it had no moral standing to stay in power. He said the Sharif family went abroad after striking deals in the past, but now they won’t get any such relief. He predicted that the Lahore High Court will decide in favour of the Model Town incident victims and order the government to public the inquiry report, which would further lay bare the true faces of the rulers. Saying that the PML-N government is involved in attacking the faith of Khatm-e-Nabuwat, the PAT chief demanded dissolution of assemblies for general elections. Reports said the PAT chief would address Tajdar-e-Khatam-e-Nabuwat Conference in Lahore on Thursday in connection with Eid Milad. Earlier, addressing a hurriedly called meeting of the PAT Central Core Committee, Tahirul Qadri had said none other than Nawaz Sharif was behind the efforts to change the text of oath regarding the finality of prophethood. He said that these changes to the law were enacted with the support of the foreign powers in an effort to end the disqualification. Published in Daily Times, November 29th 2017.
