Sir: The tit-for-tat exchanges between leaders of the United States and Pakistan is getting quite silly now. While the US states that drone attacks against Taliban-Al Qaeda targets will continue, and that Pakistan’s leaders have been informed, the Pakistani leadership denies it and states that US drone attacks, while taking out targets that Pakistan wants taken out as well, are hindering Pakistan’s efforts against terrorism. There is a need for Pakistan and the US to, once and for all, come up with a joint policy against terrorism. This will eliminate confusion and will also lead to more efficient operations against the terrorists. While both countries recognise that terrorism is a common enemy, they need a joint strategy as well, else both the US and Pakistan will remain stuck in this war without any positive results.
