LAHORE: Keeping in view the cultural aspects of the Walled City area, schoolchildren has highlighted the role of individuals in maintenance of sanitation in public places by picking up garbage. The cleanliness and awareness drive was organised by the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) with the support of Beaconhouse students in the area of Dehli Gate. On the occasion, LWMC communication team and Turkish company Albayrak set up awareness camp to brief visitors’ about role on individual in cleanliness and also distributed brochures among local people. The purpose of the drive was to raise awareness about good hygiene habits through voluntarily pick up of garbage in and around streets and markets. In this regard, an awareness walk was organised from Dehli Gate to Golden Mosque in the present of large number of students (including girls and boys) along with LWMC sanitation staff. Students said that they were very much motivated to play a vital role in cleaning the city after the sincere and devoted efforts of sanitation staff of the LWMC. They said that local people also joined in the drive and assured them of cooperation in this regard. Earlier, schoolchildren along with local volunteers had cleaned about 4km-long beach from Gokharakuda to Podampeta, the famous mass-nesting site for the endangered Olive Ridley turtles near Rushikulya River.
