Karachi: Sindh Minister for Social Welfare Hari Ram Kishori Lal inaugurated a computer lab for imparting free of cost quality vocational training to underprivileged children at Qasba Colony.
The computer lab was set up with the assistance of Karsaz Education & Welfare Organization at Chattari building in the office of Orangi Town Social Welfare assistant director.
Addressing the ceremony, Provincial Minister for, Social Welfare Kishori Lal said that Qasba Colony had seen worst law and order situation in the past. “Since the law and order situation has improved considerably, we have to join hands to rebuild our institutes and society,” said. While reiterating his resolve to provide quality services to masses at their doorsteps, he said that he was informed that the building gave a deserted look two years ago. “Today it has been transformed into impressive vocational training institute with the cooperation of Karsaz Education and Welfare Organisation,” he added.
Provincial minister appreciated the spirit of Kewo president and invited him to to collaborate for setting up such vocational centres in other underprivileged areas of Sindh. “Together we have to steer our country towards the path to prosperity,” he said.
On the occasion, provincial minister announced that he would be giving away 20 sewing machines for vocational training of girls at the centre. Social Welfare secretary Tauha Ahmed Farouqui said that underprivileged areas lacked educational and recreational facilities. Praising the centre, he said that it was an impressive addition for imparting quality vocational training in area.
Kewo President Raihan Rasool announced that they were planning to set up four more such vocational training centers in Maripur, Momenabad, Baldia and Site Town in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department.
Social Welfare Additional Secretary Essa Memon, Social Welfare Director General (DG) Sheema Arif also talked while West district Social Welfare Deputy Director Abida Rehman gave details regarding the performance and future plans.
On the occasion, children presented tableaus and national songs. During the ceremony, a group of officials of district West Social Welfare informed the provincial minister that they were serving in social welfare department for more than 30 years as ‘Auxiliary Workers’ in grade six with no further promotion and requested for the resolution of their issue.
Provincial minister assured auxiliary workers that their matter would be resolved as per law. He directed Social Welfare secretary Tuaha Ahmed Farouqui to examine their matter and resolve it at the earliest.
Social Welfare secretary Tauha Ahmed Farouqui and additional secretary Essa Memon, Social Welfare Director General (DG) Sheema Arif, Kewo President Raihan Rasool and vice president Muhammad Jafar Khan, officers and relevant officers of social welfare department also attended the inauguration ceremony.
