LAHORE: Funeral prayers for Kulsoom Nawaz, wife of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, have been offered at Sharif Medical City Raiwind on Friday. Renowned scholar Maulana Tariq Jameel led the funeral prayers. Following the funeral prayers, the former first lady was laid to rest in Jati Umra next to the resting place of her father-in-law Mian Sharif. Relatives, politicians, celebrities and hundreds of party worker attended the funeral rites. The former first lady’s body was flown back to Pakistan on a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight from Heathrow Airport for Lahore Thursday night. Kulsoom Nawaz died of cancer in London’s Harley Street clinic on Wednesday. She had been battling with lymphoma (throat) cancer since August 2017. Hassan and Hussain have decided not to attend the funeral rites of their mother in Pakistan as they are declared absconders from the on going corruption investigation against them. Nawaz Sharif, daughter Maryam and son-in-law Capt (retd) Safdar have been released from Adiala jail on parole for the funeral rites of Kulsoom Nawaz. A large number of political leaders and party workers are gathered at the Jati Umra to condole the death of the former first lady. Earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan and Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa has sent their condolences messages to the Sharif family over demise of Kulsoom Nawaz.
