ISLAMABAD: Pakistan WAPDA’s Irfan Saeed and Mahoor Shahzad clinched the National Badminton Championship men and women’s singles titles at the Pakistan Sports Complex here on Monday. Irfan defeated Murad Ali of National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) in straight sets 21-15, 24-22 while Mahoor edged out Sehra Akram 21-10, 21-09. Irfan comfortably won the first set, but in the second set, both players exhibited brilliant show of game, keeping each other on their toes with speed and powerful strokes. After a tough and nail biting fight Irfan came on top. Mahoor, paired with Saima Waqas, also won the women’s doubles final after comfortably defeating Sui Northern Gas Pipelines` (SNGPL) Ghazala and Zubaira 21-11, 21-13. NBP won the men’s doubles event with Rizwan Azam and Kashif Sulehri outclassing WAPDA’s Irfan and Azeem Sarwar 21-17, 21-13. In the four-day event, around 150 shuttlers representing all provinces and affiliated departments participated. The event was organised by the Islamabad Badminton Association.
