RAWALPINDI: Former chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General (r) Khalid Shameem Wynne died while his son was seriously injured in a road accident on Saturday. Police said that the accident took place near Chakri Interchange in Rawalpindi when car of former army official who on his way to Lahore, turned turtle due to tyre burst. As a result of the car crash, General (r) Khalid Shameem Wynne and a friend accompanying him died on the spot while his son was critically injured who was shifted to the hospital. The four-star general had served as the 14th chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee before retiring on October 7, 2013. The political and military leadership has expressed profound grief over sad demise of Wynne. They prayed for the departed soul to rest in eternal peace, early recovery of his injured son and courage for the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss with fortitude. In his condolence message, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi Saturday expressed grief and sorrow over the death of former General (r) Khalid Shameem Wynne in a road accident. He prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and grant of courage to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss, PM’s Office media wing said in a statement. The prime minister also prayed for the swift recovery of the injured. Meanwhile, Pakistan People’s Party Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari also expressed deep grief over the sad demise of Khalid Shameem Wynne.
