
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a severe heatwave alert across Pakistan until May 5. The warning covers multiple regions, including Sindh, southern Punjab, and Balochistan. Authorities have urged citizens to take precautionary measures to avoid heat-related illnesses.
The NDMA said several major cities will experience intense heat conditions. These include Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, and Bahawalpur. Rahim Yar Khan, Multan, and Turbat are also expected to face extreme temperatures. Officials warned that hot and dry conditions may persist for several days.

Furthermore, the alert extends to central Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where temperatures are expected to rise sharply. Authorities expressed concern over risks such as heatstroke and water shortages. Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary outdoor activity during peak sunlight hours.
In addition, the NDMA has directed relevant departments to activate emergency heatwave response plans. Cooling centres are being set up, while hospitals have been placed on high alert. District administrations have been instructed to remain fully prepared for emergencies.

Meanwhile, the NDMA also forecast rainfall from April 24 to 29 across all four provinces, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir. Some areas of Sindh may receive light rain and strong winds. Despite this, most regions are expected to remain under heat stress during the period.
