Residents of Karachi are facing prolonged electricity outages despite an intense heatwave gripping the city. Many citizens have reported that the Karachi Power Outage Crisis has worsened in recent days, with power cuts in several areas reportedly exceeding 12 hours and causing severe hardship during the hot weather.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, Karachi remained under the influence of hot and humid conditions throughout the day. The maximum temperature reached 40 degrees Celsius, while the heat index made it feel as hot as 51 degrees Celsius. Officials noted that the city’s temperature was 4.1 degrees Celsius above normal levels.
Weather authorities have forecast that hot and humid conditions will persist on the following day as well. The temperature is expected to reach around 38 degrees Celsius, raising concerns about public health and increasing the demand for uninterrupted electricity supply across the city.
Meanwhile, residents in several neighborhoods say extended power outages have disrupted daily life and business activities. Citizens have complained that the combination of extreme heat and lengthy load shedding has made living conditions increasingly difficult, particularly for children, the elderly, and those working from home.
K-Electric, however, has rejected claims of excessive load shedding and stated that no area is experiencing outages exceeding 10 hours. The utility company said electricity supply is suspended in some locations due to non-payment of bills and other operational issues. Despite these assurances, many residents argue that the Karachi Power Outage Crisis continues to affect their quality of life during one of the hottest periods of the year.
