Shadab Returns as Agha Takes Pakistan T20 Charge

Published on: December 28, 2025 12:14 PM

The Pakistan Cricket Board has announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming three-match T20 International series against Sri Lanka, marking the return of all-rounder Shadab Khan after recovering from shoulder surgery. The selection reflects Pakistan’s focus on balancing experience and emerging talent ahead of major international assignments.

Meanwhile, Salman Ali Agha has been appointed captain of the Pakistan T20 side for the Sri Lanka tour, signaling a leadership shift as the team builds towards future tournaments. Wicketkeeper-batter Khawaja Muhammad Nafi has also earned his maiden T20 call-up, achieving a significant milestone in his professional career.

The squad features a blend of youth and experience, including Fakhar Zaman, Naseem Shah, Saim Ayub, Mohammad Nawaz, Faheem Ashraf, and Mohammad Wasim Jr. Selectors aimed to create depth across batting, bowling, and all-round options to ensure flexibility during the series.

Pakistan’s team will depart for Sri Lanka in phases on January 4 and 5, 2026, as preparations intensify for the short tour. All three T20 matches will be played in Dambulla on January 7, 9, and 11, offering players a crucial opportunity to secure World Cup consideration.

Additionally, the board has confirmed the team management, appointing Naveed Akram Cheema as team manager and Mike Hesson as head coach for white-ball formats. The coaching unit also includes Ashley Noffke, Muhammad Hanif Malik, and Shane McDermott, supported by experienced fitness and analysis staff.

Officials believe the Sri Lanka series will play an important role in shaping Pakistan’s T20 strategy, helping selectors assess combinations, leadership depth, and player form ahead of the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup.
