LAHORE – Solar panel system prices in Lahore have fallen significantly, offering major relief to households and industries looking to shift toward renewable energy. According to reports, prices of 5 kW to 15 kW systems have dropped by up to Rs150,000, making solar installations more accessible for consumers.

A 5 kW solar setup is now available for Rs550,000, while a 7 kW system is priced at Rs625,000. The cost of a 10 kW system has fallen to Rs900,000, and a 12 kW installation now stands at Rs1,050,000. Meanwhile, the price of a 15 kW system has been fixed at Rs1,300,000. Dealers say the decline is driven by lower panel import costs and increased market competition.

The reduction is expected to further boost the adoption of solar systems across Punjab, where rising electricity tariffs have already encouraged thousands of households and industries to switch to rooftop solutions. The shift is helping consumers cut power bills and reduce dependency on the national grid.
Pakistan has witnessed an unprecedented boom in solar installations over recent years. A senior government official told Reuters that, for the first time, rooftop solar generation will exceed grid-linked demand during daytime hours in major industrial cities next year.
Aisha Moriani, secretary of the climate change ministry, said regions such as Lahore, Faisalabad and Sialkot could see “negative demand”, meaning behind-the-meter solar would offset grid consumption entirely for several hours. Such a phenomenon, common in parts of Europe and Australia, would make Pakistan one of the first major emerging economies to experience it.

While the surge in rooftop solar has cut emissions and lowered consumer costs, it has also strained the finances of already debt-laden power utilities due to reduced demand for grid electricity. The government is now considering new tariffs and revised fee structures to ensure large solar users contribute fairly to grid maintenance.
