PTI demands clarity on Imran Khan’s health

Published on: November 27, 2025 11:45 AM

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has demanded that the government clarify recent rumours surrounding the health of jailed party founder Imran Khan, urging authorities to arrange a meeting between him and his family. The party highlighted that his sisters have repeatedly been denied access to the former prime minister, raising concerns about his whereabouts.

The PTI called the rumours “despicable” and accused Afghan and Indian media, along with foreign social media accounts, of spreading misinformation. Social media activity, particularly on X, has seen the trend “Where is Imran Khan?” gain traction, intensifying public curiosity and concern.

In a statement, the party demanded that the interior ministry and federal government immediately issue a formal and transparent statement regarding Imran’s health, security, and current status. It further called for an investigation into those responsible for circulating the rumours and for the facts to be presented to the nation.

PTI leader Meher Bano Qureshi, daughter of former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, said the best way to end the rumours was to allow Imran’s sisters, lawyers, and party members to meet him. She emphasised the government’s duty to protect the ex-premier’s safety and rights.

Meanwhile, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif claimed that Imran had access to a TV, exercise machines, and food from outside while in jail, contrasting it with his own experience of harsh conditions. Asif also alleged that Imran had a double bed and velvet bedding, asserting that the jail superintendent personally tended to him.

Imran, 73, has been imprisoned since August 2023 in a £190 million corruption case and faces pending trials under the Anti-Terrorism Act related to the May 9, 2023 protests. The PTI vowed to pursue every legal and political measure to counter misinformation and ensure transparency about the former prime minister’s condition.
