Renowned Actress Mahira Khan graced a session titled “Main Hoon Karachi” that was dedicated to her on second day of the four-day 17th International Urdu Conference – Karachi Festival 2024, organized by the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi, on Saturday. The session featured Mahira Khan in conversation with senior journalist and anchor Waseem Badami. Waseem Badami opened the session by stating that such events in Karachi highlight the city’s vibrant and lively spirit. He praised Ahmed Shah, the driving force behind the Arts Council, for the revolutionary changes brought to the institution in recent years, which have made it a hub for successful cultural events. Mahira Khan expressed her deep love for Karachi, describing it as a city close to her heart, where she has spent many important moments of her life. She shared that she was born and married in Karachi and her grandparents had migrated here from India. The beautiful memories of Karachi remain fresh in her mind. Mahira highlighted Karachi’s culture and inclusive nature, saying the city does not judge anyone based on their identity or background. She admired Karachi’s spirit of tolerance and acceptance, which she considers its defining traits. She further added that Karachi is a melting pot where people of different religions and cultures coexist and she has the largest circle of friends in this city. Recalling her childhood, Mahira nostalgically mentioned visiting Zainab Market and enjoying Gol gappay. She joked that sometimes she wishes to wear a burqa and roam the city streets to relive those moments, but being recognized prevents her from doing so. In response to a question, Mahira addressed a recent incident in Quetta and emphasized the need for similar events in cities like Quetta to promote positivity and prevent unpleasant occurrences. She also humorously shared an anecdote about a robbery at her home, which entertained the audience. During the rapid-fire segment, Waseem Badami’s witty questions and Mahira Khan’s playful answers kept the atmosphere lively and cheerful. The actress discussed the importance of award shows, saying that they provide a platform to appreciate new talent and allow artists to connect with one another.
