At least three people were killed in a dispute over irrigation water in the Umra Abad area within the jurisdiction of Badaber Police Station here on Wednesday.
According to police, a violent exchange of fire erupted over a farmland water-sharing dispute. As a result, Sabz Ali, son of Ghairan Gul and Zubair, son of Sabz Ali, were shot dead at the scene.
Another victim, Muhammad Uzair, son of Sabz Ali was critically injured and rushed to a hospital for medical treatment. However, he later succumbed to his injuries.
Police identified the alleged suspects as Hazrat Ali, Sher Alam (sons of Syed Alam), Nazia and Aziza.
Local sources said the dispute escalated into armed violence, leading to multiple casualties. Following the incident police reached the crime scene, collected evidence, and launched an investigation.
Police have initiated legal proceedings against the accused, while residents have urged for additional security measures to prevent further violence in the area.
Man, granddaughter killed
An aged man and his three-year-old granddaughter were killed when a heavy tree, uprooted by strong winds. fell on them in the Lamoti area of Upper Dir district, police informed on Wednesday.
Police said Aqal Zareen was walking along a road with his young granddaughter when a tree suddenly collapsed on them during high winds.
The incident happened so quickly that both victims suffered critical injuries and died shortly afterward.
Following the accident, residents immediately launched rescue efforts and shifted the bodies to a nearby hospital.
The heartbreaking tragedy has left the area in mourning. Residents have urged the local administration to identify and remove dangerous roadside trees and implement safety measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
