Iran declares April ceasefire meaningless

Published on: June 11, 2026 11:25 PM

Iran has said that recent US attacks have rendered the April 8 ceasefire meaningless. The statement matters because it signals a further breakdown in already fragile US-Iran relations. Regional security, diplomatic efforts, and global stability are directly affected by the escalation.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry strongly condemned what it described as large-scale US attacks on its territory. It called the strikes a blatant violation of the UN Charter and international law. The ministry said the attacks undermined sovereignty and territorial integrity principles. It warned that Washington would bear responsibility for consequences.

The ministry said the ceasefire agreement reached earlier in April has effectively collapsed. It argued that continued military actions have destroyed any remaining basis for restraint. Iran also accused the United States of using regional facilities to carry out operations. It said such actions place those countries alongside aggressors.

The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a comprehensive statement strongly condemning the “terrorist US regime’s widespread aggression” against Iran last night.

Tehran reiterated that it has the right to self-defence under international law. It said Iran remains determined to neutralise sources of attacks against the country. The statement also called on regional states to prevent their territory from being used for military operations. Iran warned that it would respond to further aggression.

Meanwhile, Iran urged the United Nations and its members to take a clear stance on the situation. It called on the Security Council to uphold international peace and security obligations. Tehran also criticized what it called silence from global institutions. Further diplomatic responses are expected as tensions continue to rise.
