A potential US-Iran nuclear deal would be a major success for the American people, regardless of whether Israel supports it or not, according to U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance. His remarks come amid reports that Washington and Tehran may be close to reaching an agreement.
The comments followed a recent statement by President Donald Trump, who said that a deal with Iran could be finalized within the next two to three days. The development has increased attention on ongoing diplomatic efforts between the two countries.
In an interview with Fox News, J. D. Vance said that while the United States and Israel share many common interests, there are also areas where their priorities differ. He emphasized that Washington’s main objective is to ensure that Iran does not acquire nuclear weapons.
Vance stated that President Trump has made it clear that although Israel has its own strategic goals, the United States must act according to its national interests. He argued that the current administration has created conditions that could lead to a stronger agreement than the one reached during the administration of Barack Obama in 2015.
The vice president added that progress made over the past eighteen months has opened the door to a long-term solution regarding Iran’s nuclear program. He said the US-Iran nuclear deal would serve American interests and could provide a lasting framework for addressing concerns over Iran’s nuclear activities, whether Israel agrees with the approach or not.
