Under Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s “Drug-Free Punjab” vision, Punjab Police continues its operations against drug peddlers and smugglers across the province. On the directions of Inspector General of Police Punjab Abdul Kareem, Punjab Police has further intensified its crackdown against major drug dealers, smugglers, and elements involved in the narcotics supply chain.
Providing details, the Punjab Police spokesperson said that 21,824 drug peddlers have been arrested across the province during the current year, while 21,712 cases have been registered. During these operations, 11,626 kilograms of charas, 1,166 kilograms of heroin, 687 kilograms of ice (crystal meth), 536 kilograms of opium, and more than 345,000 litres of liquor were recovered from the possession of the accused.
In the provincial capital Lahore, 2,866 drug peddlers were arrested during the current year, while 2,775 cases were registered. During operations in Lahore, 1,027 kilograms of charas, 82 kilograms of heroin, 256 kilograms of ice (crystal meth), 29 kilograms of opium, and 14,847 litres of liquor were recovered.
