KARACHI: Despite Rs 70 billion expenditures in the area of Thar, it is considered as the lowest performing district in Sindh with regard to health, education, water and sanitation and other facilities, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah disclosed in his press conference at CM house on Wednesday. According to Sindh government data available with Daily Times, there are various lowest performing districts in Sindh regarding access to improved sanitation and other facilities, which shows highest in Karachi with 97 percent, Hyderabad with 84% and Larkana with 72% and lowest in Tharparkar with 7 percent, Thatta with 20 percent and Tando Muhammad Khan with 21percent respectively. There is a disparity across the districts of Sindh province that was observed regarding provision of access to quality education, healthcare services, clean drinking water and sanitation facilities. The social indicators in the budget strategy report indicates that the province continued to grapple with lowest level of human development, low literacy level; poor health indicators; inadequate access to safe drinking water and sanitation; poverty and hunger. According to the comparison of social indicators, enrollment was highest in Hyderabad with 67.1 percent, Karachi with 60 percent and Khairpur with 59.7 percent, while lowest in Tando Muhammad Khan with 29.6 percent, Thatta with 34.4 percent and Badin with 40 percent. The report said that the literacy rate for10 years and above was highest in Karachi about 79.3 percent, Hyderabad having 68.8 percent and Dadu with 64.8 percent, whereas lowest in Thatta by 36 percent, T M Khan by 36.2 percent and Jacobabad by 37 percent. The gender parity index for primary education was highest in Karachi by 1.02 percent, Hyderabad by 1.01 percent and Dadu by 0.99 percent, while lowest in T M Khan by 0.49 percent, Kashmore 0.53 percent and Jacobabad shows 0.64 percent. While, the gender parity index for secondary education was highest in Karachi by 1.17 percent, Hyderabad by 1.14 percent and Mirpurkhas by 0.97 percent, lowest in Ghotki by 0.24 percent, Benazirabad by 0.39 percent and Sukkur by 0.45 percent. The rate of fullyimmunised children aged between 12-23 months was highest in Karachi by 91.1 percent, Jamshoro by 91 percent and Larkana by 85.1 percent and lowest in TM Khan by 42.7 percent, Tharparkar by 45 percent and Jacobabad by 57.1 percent. According to documents, the access to improved drinking water was highest in Larkana and Ghotki with 100 percent and Shikarpur with 99.8 percent, while lowest in Tharparkar by 7.2 percent, Umarkot by 53.2 percent and Jamshoro by 64 percent. Similarly, access to improved sanitation facility was highest in Karachi by 97 percent, Hyderabad by 84 percent and Larkana by 72 percent and lowest in Tharparkar with seven percent, Thatta by 20 percent and Tando Muhammad Khan by 21 percent respectively.
