KARACHI: Addressing a press conference at Karachi Press Club along with Zafar Iqbal and other Kashmiris who joined the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), senior Minister for Education and Literacy Nisar Khuhro has said that Waseem Akhtar only stages protest demonstrations but has done nothing for the development of the city. 12 billion rupees have been allocated for development projects in Karachi and the government gives Rs 50 crores to the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) in grants. Yet nothing has been done by the city mayor. “Waseem Akhtar should tell us how many development schemes have been initiated by the mayor?”, he enquired, adding that the mayor should work rather than staging mere protests and playing point-scoring games. “The mayor has presented at least 186 schemes without giving details of the projects. The government cannot approve such huge budgets in the name of development without giving details. The Supreme Court has also prohibited allowing the use of funds for MPAs as well”, he added. He believes the mayor’s protest in front of theSindh Assembly clearly shows the ill intentions of these people. “Pakistan People’s Party is clear about the issue of Kashmir. It has also raised its voice in favour of the rights of the Kashmiri people.” We strongly condemn the brutal killings of people on both sides; Maqbooza Kashmir and Azad Jammu and Kashmir”, he said adding that Pakistan should not treat Kashmiris like they have been treated by India. “Our party does not want seasonal politicians but Peoples’ Party needs loyal leadership who can advocate in favor of the party always”, he concluded.
