KALABAGH: The recovery of decomposing dead bodies from Jinnah Barrage could not be achieved as the number of corpses recovered from the reservoir has reached 53 in one year. Police, instead of searching for heirs, began to bury these bodies by declaring them unclaimed at a piece of land, which police had reserved for the purpose. It is most surprising that nobody from the kiths and kin of the deceased persons contacted District Police Officer (DPO) Mianwali or Kalabagh Police Station. When Daily Times contacted DPO Mianwali Sadiq Dogar, he said that as per police records, there were 38 unclaimed dead bodies. 34 of the deaths were due to drowning and the remaining four were murdered, revealing torture marks on their bodies. “The police carried out postmortem and DNA test of all the dead bodies before burying them. We can move forward if any person contacts us in this regard. We have buried all bodies as Amanat”, he added by saying that the police sent the pictures of the deceased people to KP government.
