LAHORE: Police have arrested 2,932 criminals belonging to 1,189 different gangs and recovered more than Rs 604.5 million along with other valuables from their possession during the current year. As many as 6,161 cases, including murder, attempt to murder, robbery and other law violation, were traced against the accused during the current year, while the police also arrested 5,192 proclaimed offenders and 11,610 court absconders during the same period. According to details, Capital City Police Officer captain (r) Amin Wains directed the police officers to implement National Action Plan (NAP) in true letter and spirit. He ordered the officials to utilise their energies in curbing the ratio of crime by arresting the criminals involved in different unlawful activities across the city. All divisional SPs increased their efforts against criminals and showed satisfactory results during the current year, he remarked. “Police also recovered 457 cars, including pick-up vans and rickshaws, 1,265 motorcycles, two kilograms and 22-tola gold ornaments and other household items from the arrested criminals,” he informed. During crackdowns and search operations against illegal weapons, he said the police arrested 3,065 criminals for display of arms and recovered 31 kalashinkovs, 135 rifles, 270 guns, 2,939 revolvers and pistols, and 17,415 bullets from their possession. It was informed that the police registered 4,895 cases against drug dealers, besides arresting 4,950 culprits and recovering 182kg heroine, 1,780kg chars, and 1,800 bottles of liquor from them. Police also demolished 10 distilleries in different areas of the city. Moreover, 1,070 cases were registered against gamblers, while 3,980 were arrested and betting amount of more than Rs 100 million was recovered.
