LAHORE: Punjab Inspector General of Police Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera has directed to expedite the process regarding installation of trackers in police vehicles across the province by December 15 to stop their illegal use at any level. Presiding over a high-level meeting at the Central Police Office on Thursday, the IG revealed that a special cell is being established to ensure internal accountability of police, in a bid to make the department more transparent and effective. The Discipline and Inspection Cell would work under the supervision of an additional inspector general, while one deputy inspector general, along with a team of three AIGs and one high rank official from each region of the province, would work for the cell. “The cell would investigate complaints against the high handedness of police officers in a transparent way and departmental and legal action would be taken against culprits without any delay,” he said, adding that under supervision of an additional IG, working of internal accountability in police would be improved. Additional IG (Welfare and Finance) Sohail Khan, Additional IG (Operations and Investigation) Capt (r) Arif Nawaz, Additional IG (Establishment) Dr Arif Mushtaq, DIG (IT) Shahid Hanif, DIG (Operations) Aamir Zulfiqar Khan, DIG (Headquarters) B A Nasir, DIG (Research and Development) Ahmad Ishaque Jehangir, DIG (Welfare) Waseem Sial, DIG Special Protection Unit Agha Muhammad Yousuf and other senior police officers attended the meeting. The IG directed the additional inspector general (welfare and finance) to improve the monitoring system of ‘Guzara Allowance ATM Cards’, issued to the widows of martyrs and police officials who passed away during service. He also directed to link details of dowry fund, scholarships and burial fund with accounts of Guzara Allowance beneficiaries to avoid any errors in records of welfare projects. He directed the officials to utilise all available resources to complete the project of establishing front desks in remaining police stations of the province during current financial year and to ensure that these front desks are operational by the end of this financial year. IG Sukhera directed the DIG (IT) to regulate and monitor ACRs of police officials through HRMIS system and to send letters of displeasure to the few police units that are not using HRMIS system properly. The IG further directed DIG Special Protection Unit Agha Yousuf to complete the process of shifting headquarter of SPU to Farooqabad and ensure that the headquarter would be operational within one month.
