The Sindh Minister for Information and Archives and Labour Saeed Ghani attended a majlis held at Nishtar Park, on Monday. Special Assistants to Sindh chief minister (CM) Waqar Mehdi and Rashid Rabbani accompanied the minister on the occasion. Ghani met with the organizers of the majlis and reviewed the arrangements. The organizers expressed their satisfaction over the security plans and other arrangements. The Sindh government had made foolproof security arrangements for the majalis to be held on the ninth of Muharram and Ashura, Ghani told the organisers. All the procession routes were being constantly monitored, he said. Hospitals and ambulance services were also on high alert, the minister added. The staff of the local administration would also be present to facilitate the mourners, he said. Urgent directives had been issued to the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board managing director and other relevant officers for rectification of the problem, Ghani said after taking notice of sewer leakages. The Sindh government would ensure that the mourners don’t face any problems, the minister said. It is extremely regrettable that a few miscreants had tried to create problems for the mourners by blocking sewerage lines, he said. Numerous sacks full of sand had been removed from the sewerage lines and manholes on Baba-i-Urdu road yesterday, Ghani said. “This practice of creating hurdles for the peaceful mourners is intolerable,” the minister said. He, himself and other Sindh government representatives were in constant contact with the members of the administration of the processions and majalis, Ghani added. The minister also requested the organisers of the congregations to keep an eye on anti social elements. Separately, Ashura is observed across the country with solemnity every year to pay homage to Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and other martyrs of Karbala, Ghani said in his message on the occasion of Ashura. “This day gave us a lesson to lay down our lives for achieving higher objectives. The best way to pay tribute to Hazrat Imam Husain (RA) and his family was to finish our internal rifts and sectarianisms and stand united on a single platform,” he said. Ghani concluded by saying that the example that had been set by Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companion martyrs in Karbala was a beacon for the entire Muslim world.
