PESHAWAR: Speakers in a seminar urged the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Government to extend the health budget of the province and provide best health care facilities in Rural Health Centers (RHCs) and Basic Health Units (BHUs). The seminar on ‘Provincial Advocacy Forum KP’ organized by Empowerment, Voice & Accountability for Better Health & Nutrition (EVA-BHN) and Centre for Communication Programme Pakistan (CCPP). The EVA-BHN programme working in four districts of KP for the last two years including Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi and Peshawar and working to strengthen the healthcare system of the province. Dr Rahman from EVA-BHN said that most common problems in BHUs across the province were the lack of infrastructure while the lack of medicine and Human Resources (HR) were the major problems being facing by the common people. He added that his organization were working with local people who were identified those problems and then presented those problems to the high ups, adding that some of the problems has been solve while some of them were still exists. On the occasion Himayat Ullah Mayar district Nazim Mardan said that provincial government announced that 30 per cent budget will be allocated to the local government but that was only promised and still district government representative were fighting for their budget. He added that despite financial constrain he provide all best healthcare facilities to the public in public health hospitals and Basic Health Units across the district. Maliha Khan Members of health standing committee in provincial assembly from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government takes all steps to provide best health care facilities to the public. He added that the provincial government starts Sehat Insaf Card in the province as the poor people will take benefits from this package, adding that provincial government give autonomy to the hospitals and recruited doctors, paramedical staff and nurses across the province. Dr Saeed Ur Reham deputy director health care commission Khyber Pakhtunkhwa said that unfortunately Pakistan is the signatory of Alm-Atha declaration but were not followed it, adding that government followed the Gabi declaration as it has eight components while the four components was suggested by pharmaceutical companies for their business.
