The Punjab Government has decided to establish three new districts and three new tehsils in province. Daily Times has learnt. In a bid for establishment of new districts and tehsils, Chief Minister Office has sent a directive to Board of Revenue. According to details, the proposed new districts in Punjab are Jarranwala; a tehsil of district Faisalabad, Kot Addu; a tehsil of district Muzzafargarh and Chistian; a tehsil of district Bahawalnagar. Likewise the proposed new tehsils are Koh-e-Suleman in district Dera Ghazi Khan, Dharanwala in district Bahawalnagar, Chowk Sarwar Shaheed in district Muzaffargarh. This is pertinent to mention here that PMLN’s Punjab government proposed the establishment of four new tehsils in province. For the purpose, the then Board of Revenue secretary had forwarded letter to all the administrative secretaries that government intended to establish new tehsils in four districts including Dharanwala in district Bahawalnagar, Chowk Sarwar Shaheed in district Muzaffargarh, Gagoo Mandi in district Vehari and Jalalpur Jattan in district Gujrat. After establishment of new districts and tehsils, the number of districts will be increased to 39 from 36 while the number of tehsils will be increased to 146 from 143. Reliable sources privy to development informed that initially government has all set to establish Koh-e-Suleman as tehsil which will be soon inaugurated by CM Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar. They informed that to revenue department has started working for new tehsils and districts and for the purpose the letters have been written to all the stakeholders including government officials, social and political activists of the respective areas. “All the districts and tehsils would be established revenue basis. This new establishment will be made under Punjab Land Revenue Act 1967,” they added. However, they continued that establishing a tehsil or district was not an easy task. “Department has done a lot of homework over new tehsils but it requires much more to do for the establishment of new districts,” they said adding that in regard of establishment of new districts the work is going with a slow pace. An official seeking anonymity told Daily Times that there were chances for the demand of new districts and tehsils after the establishment of new tehsils and districts. “Government was also thinking on other parameters to avoid such demands,” he added.
